What to do for Mother’s Day in Clarington

Take a little time on Mother’s Day to appreciate everything that your mom has done for you. On May 14, celebrate your mom right here in Clarington. Here’s a list of experiences you can share with your mom, as well as gift ideas to get you planning the perfect Mother’s Day.

  1. Visit a farm
    Clarington has many farms to discover. Haute Goat Farm in Newtonville is holding their Open House on May 13, just in time for Mother’s Day. There will be alpaca shearing, goat races, hay rides, goat yoga, a kids’ activity tent, baby goat snuggling, and more. Take mom to this free event and leave with a memento from their gift shop.
  2. Cafes, sweets, and more
    Enjoy Mother’s Day with an afternoon spot of tea or speciality coffee! Our townships have many charming cafes to choose from. Specifically, one of our cafes, The Toasted Walnut, will be hosting an event for this coming Mothers Day! Reservations are required and with this pre-set menu, you won’t want to miss out. There are no age restrictions to this event as they are also offering a kids tea menu.
  3. Relax at a local spa
    Give mom the gift or relaxation this year! Book a full spa day experience at Enchanted Hands Day Spa, or a salon and spa appointment for your mom at Revolutions Salon and Spa, in Courtice. With any choice of appointment, mom will leave feeling like a whole new woman on her special day.
  1. A homemade meal – literally
    Surprise mom by making her favourite meal. Stop in at the Clarington Farmers’ Market to collect your groceries and support our local farmers. Remember to do the dishes, after all it is Mother’s Day.

    Enjoy a tour through one of our local art galleries. The Visual Arts Centre in Bowmanville is featuring Pamela Dodd’s ‘Come Closer: Stories in Woodcut and Linocut print’ exhibit until May 21. Admission is free.

    For the adventurous mom, explore nature with a hike. We have trails located all across Clarington. Stop by the Clarington Visitor’s Centre for maps and suggestions on where to venture.

    Bike down the waterfront trail and stop for a picnic by the beach. If you prefer dining indoors, take the Greenbelt Cycling Route through Orono. When you’re there, stop for brunch at The Fire Hall Bistro.

    Fill up with delicious pastries from The Village Bake Shop in Orono. This Dutch bakery is jam-packed with local favourites, like their famous apple fritters and it also sells imported cheeses, meats, bread, and more. If mom is a chocolate lover, visit The Chocolate Messenger in Bowmanville.

    If your mom is a history buff then try a self-guided tour to the historical sites around town. Spend quality time with mom while learning the history that made the townships and hamlets in Clarington what it is today. Collect the self-guided tour brochures at the Clarington Visitor’s Centre.

  1. A Victorian tea experience
    Bring your mom in for a new tea experience for a day to remember! Lady Kimberly, owner of Tea Granny and Friends, has prepared a special event specifically for our moms. At this event, you will receive a Victorian tea experience and leave with a special gift upon departure. Reservations are required so call ahead to reserve you spot.
    Another great high tea experience will be found at Brianna’s Sweet Treats! Open your mind to a new experience while enjoying tea and all the other sweet treats to life.
